On December 12th, 30 staff members from Craghoppers’ Manchester HQ will embark on a 5.5-mile sponsored walk from their Trafford HQ to the Cenotaph in Manchester city centre. The team is taking part in Walking With The Wounded’s (WWTW) ‘Walking Home’ campaign, raising funds to support veterans and their families through vital employment, mental health, and care coordination programmes.
As a long-standing supporter of WWTW, Craghoppers has made a tangible impact through fundraising events, campaigns and product sales, including donating a percentage of its new workwear range revenue to the charity.

Greater Manchester Police join Walking Home campaign

On December 5th, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) will partner with Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) for a special Walking Home fundraising event. Around 40 walkers from both organisations will trek through Manchester, starting at GMP Headquarters, stopping at WWTW’s hub on Canada Street, and concluding at the Cenotaph in St. Peter’s Square to pay their respects.
The event, part of WWTW’s annual Walking Home campaign, raises funds for vital services supporting veterans and their families. Participants will be joined by special guests, including Deputy Mayor Kate Green and GMP Assistant Chief Constable Chris Sykes.

Anglesey couple take on Australian walk to support UK veterans

Gary Thompson, a veteran from Menai Bridge, Anglesey, and his wife Tracey are joining Walking With The Wounded’s ‘Walking Home’ campaign this December—despite being based in Singapore.
The couple will undertake a sponsored walk in Australia, starting at Rottnest Island’s artillery magazine and finishing at the Sydney Harbour Bridge, covering iconic sites like the Botanical Gardens and state memorial.
Reflecting on the challenge, Gary said:
“After 24 years in the Armed Forces, I know not all veterans have the same opportunities I’ve had. This is my fourth year participating in ‘Walking Home,’ and I’m excited to take on this coast-to-coast challenge for a cause I deeply care about.”

Stevenage veteran who recently learnt to walk again joins Walking Home

Mark Williams, an Army Veteran from Stevenage, is planning to cover 28 miles between the 15 and 22 December for Walking Home this year, walking for four hours each day.
Mark served in the Army for 16 years and spent 10 years housebound due to a debilitating spinal injury. His recovery was further set back when he suffered from sepsis in 2022. Despite these challenges, Mark has made remarkable progress with his recovery and rehabilitating, recently starting to walk again without the use of walking aids. He plans to use his Walking Home challenge to inspire others facing similar challenges and raise vital funds for Walking With The Wounded.

Colchester resident walking 20 miles in support of veterans

Joe completes 77 mile walk 'home'

Joe Swift, a Walking With The Wounded supporter and Walking Home participant, recently completed a 77-mile walk in memory of his father, who he sadly lost 30 years ago.
Joe’s dad served in the Armed Forces, and Joe describes him as being the ‘perfect role model’ for him and his sister when they were children. Joe was motivated to take on the challenge after hearing about the work Walking With The Wounded do to provide veterans with tailored mental health support within 7 miles of their home. With this in mind, Joe made the decision to walk from his hometown, Burton-on-Trent, to his father’s hometown, Wigan, a journey of 77 miles.

RAF veteran takes on 100 mile Peak District walk

Jack Roberts, an RAF Veteran from Macclesfield, is walking 100 miles through the Peak District between November 11th and December 11th.
During his time in the RAF, Jack completed two tours in Afghanistan in 2009 and 2011 as a Force Protection member of the Medical Emergency Response Team. Following harrowing experiences, he was diagnosed with PTSD and received critical support from Walking With The Wounded.
