WWTW Manchester team walking to raise funds

A team of our staff and local supporters will be walking from Canada Street in Manchester to The Cenotaph in St Peter’s Square on 8th December to raise funds for those who served.


Commenting on the Walking Home For Christmas challenge, Tom Knight, WWTW North West Regional Manager said, “Every year, the dedicated staff at Walking With The Wounded take part in our Walking Home For Christmas challenge. This year, our Manchester team will walk to the Cenotaph as a way of paying our respects to those who have served.

South Staffordshire College students and staff 50km walk

Ian Pringle, from South Staffordshire, will walk 50km alongside staff and Uniformed Public Service Learners from Tamworth and Cannock campuses.

The group will walk to the National Arboretum on 10th December to raise funds for those who served by taking part in the military charity Walking With The Wounded’s Walking Home For Christmas campaign.

Commenting on the Walking Home For Christmas challenge, Ian said, “I served 22 years in HM Forces before moving into teaching at South Staffordshire College where with other service veterans we teach young people with aspirations to join the Armed Forces/Emergency services on the Uniformed Public Service course.

Festive fundraising with a medieval twist

On December 10th a team of Medieval Battle Reenactors will embark on a quest to cover an 8-kilometre route through the heart of Ipswich from Gainsborough Sports Centre to Christchurch Park, wearing their suits of armour, each suit weighs 35kg (equivalent to 3-4 stone). Their noble quest is in support of Walking With The Wounded’s ‘Walking Home For Christmas’ challenge.

Dale Eades, an armed forces veteran, will lead the group as they take on the challenge.

Glenn's 160 mile walk from Manchester to Lockerbie

Glenn, from Wythenshawe in Manchester, is embarking on a walking challenge from Manchester to Lockerbie from December 12th to 21st. His purpose is to raise funds for those who have served, participating in our Walking Home For Christmas campaign.

Planning to cover 15 to 20 miles each day, Glenn will undertake this challenge independently, carrying all supplies for the ten-day trek on his back, he will be joined by his close friend Gary Baker. The journey begins at Wythenshawe F.C. Stadium, Altrincham Rd, Wythenshawe M22 4US, around midday on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. The aim is to reach Lockerbie on December 21, 2023, completing the 10-day trek.

Steve and Craig to take on Manchester to Blackpool walk

On December 14th, Steve McGuire and Craig Nield, residents of Manchester, are embarking on a 60-mile walk from Canada Street in Manchester to Blackpool. Their goal is to raise funds to support military charity Walking With The Wounded’s Walking Home For Christmas campaign.

Supported by a dedicated team, Steve and Craig will face the challenge head-on. Upon reaching Blackpool, they will be treated to an exclusive tour of Hanger 42 Spitfire Visitors Centre.

Dan Searson to walk 60km across Greater Manchester in 24 hours

Dan Searson, founder of Challenge The Wild, who is based in Greater Manchester, will take on a 60km walk on the 12th and 13th December to support veterans this Christmas.

Dan served as an Army Officer in the Royal Army Medical Corps, during which time he was deployed to the Balkans, East Africa and the Middle East. He was awarded several British Army Commendations during his service.

An Interview With: Andy Schofield

Last year, Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) supporter and veteran, Andy, took on a mammoth Walking Home For Christmas (WHFC) challenge. He walked from London to Manchester (350km) over the course of five days. We sat down with him to find out what inspired him to take on the challenge and how he prepared.


What were you reasons for signing up to WHFC?

I signed up for WHFC firstly to support my veteran community. It pains me to see so many people who served that are now suffering mentally, physically, and emotionally. The rise in veteran homelessness is staggering and the transition to civvy street is nuanced and complex. I wanted to do my part for the community and to raise money for WWTW, a shining light in the veteran charity space!
