The Long Way Home

What is this special event?

Long Way Home is a very special ‘pulk pull’ activity running alongside Walking Home for Christmas this year, kicking off our ‘15 years of Supporting Those Who Have Served’ celebrations.

Starting at the Cenotaph in London, the route heads north via our Manchester head office and concludes at our regional hub in Newcastle.

Covering roughly 40km each day and fully supported by an on-the-ground Walking With The Wounded expedition crew, we invite you to join for a full or partial leg, pulling the pulk solo or as part of a team. This is a golden opportunity to be part of history and pay tribute to an iconic act of endurance by wounded veterans.

Over the years, our supporters have helped thousands of veterans re-ignite their sense of purpose and carry their load each day – this is your chance to get involved and join the pulk on its ‘Long Way Home’.

Why a pulk pull?

In 2011, a group of wounded veterans, including Prince Harry, undertook the first expedition of its kind to the North Pole, proving that the sky was still the limit for those wounded in the service of their country. The team showed the world what veterans can do, and from there, Walking With The Wounded was born.

Since then, through WWTW events at home and abroad, veterans have continued to demonstrate that they can overcome significant challenges.

A key part of the expedition kit was the trusty pulk, the sled that not only carried equipment and supplies over obstacles and some of the toughest terrain on earth but also symbolised the mental load that wounded veterans carry throughout their lives.
