An Interview With: Andy Schofield

Last year, Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) supporter and veteran, Andy, took on a mammoth Walking Home For Christmas (WHFC) challenge. He walked from London to Manchester (350km) over the course of five days. We sat down with him to find out what inspired him to take on the challenge and how he prepared.
What were you reasons for signing up to WHFC?
I signed up for WHFC firstly to support my veteran community. It pains me to see so many people who served that are now suffering mentally, physically, and emotionally. The rise in veteran homelessness is staggering and the transition to civvy street is nuanced and complex. I wanted to do my part for the community and to raise money for WWTW, a shining light in the veteran charity space!

Army Cadet Forces from London to Yorkshire will be taking on walks across the country in December to raise funds for those who served.

RBL Tidworth FC Brings It Home

Fresh from walking 23 miles back to Tidworth garrison on Friday (and going via Stonehenge) the team from RBL Tidworth FC finished off their efforts in style on Saturday by hosting a whole day of fundraising for families, with childrens activities in the afternoon and adults in the evening. From raffle tickets, to a silent auction, no stone was left unturned by the team, ably led by WO2 Jay Clibery and an astonishing 5k plus has been raised, with money still coming in. Morag's 30 Mile Challenge

A big shout out to Morag from Devon, who is going to be walking 30 miles on December 16th, taking in a number of war memorials en route. Lee's Bothy Challenge!

Massive props to Lee Jordan who is really living and breathing the challenge element of Walking Home For Christmas! Imagine - sleeping in the most Easterly Mountain Bothy in the UK each night for the past 9 nights, up near Balmoral in -21, to do your bit... well Lee, ex RAF made this pledge before the weather forecast swung rather dramatically for the worse. But he served, knows the value of others service and he wanted to do something extraordinary to help raise funds to support those who need a helping hand having hit a bump in the road.

Alex Smashes It For Walking Home

As the son of two military veterans and a CCF Cadet now himself, Alex is no stranger to the Armed Forces family and has taken it upon himself to smash out over 1,000 fundraising for our work with wounded veterans and their families. On Saturday in some punishing conditions, he walked 10.8 miles with his mum, even picking up donations along the way! We're so proud of his attitude to fundraising, his sense of solidarity with veterans and his achievements this Christmas. Gareth, Neil & Andy get seriously cold for Christmas!

Huge well done to Gareth, Neil & Andy who in some of the most punishing conditions seen in the country for a number of years, walked 93 miles back to Sunderland, after climbing Helvellyn! They finished at the Veterans walk in Mowbray Park, Sunderland yesterday and we could not be prouder of their almost superhuman efforts for Walking With The Wounded and those we support.
