Royal Navy veteran taking on Portsmouth walk

Royal Navy veteran and Regional Manager for Walking With The Wounded will be stepping out at midday on December 06 to embark on a sponsored walk around Portsmouth with a group of fellow walkers as part of our ‘Walking Home’ fundraising campaign. David, who served in the Royal Navy for 7 years, is dedicated to giving back to his fellow service members. He, along with fellow fundraisers, will walk 6 miles on 06 December from Milton Common Community Memorial, along the coast to Old Portsmouth and on to Victory Gate.

Colchester resident walking 20 miles in support of veterans

David Welham, from Colchester, is covering 20 miles during the month of December as part of his Walking Home challenge, including a round-trip commute from his home to Colchester train station and back.

Commenting on his motivation for taking part in Walking Home, David said, “I’ve supported charities a lot in the past but haven’t done a fundraising challenge for a while, so I thought it was time for me to get back out and do something for a cause I care about. I’ve supported Walking With The Wounded before and living in a Garrison town and having friends who served in the Armed Forces means I have that military connection, so it made sense for me to sign up. Joe completes 77 mile walk 'home'

Joe Swift, a Walking With The Wounded supporter and Walking Home participant, recently completed a 77-mile walk in memory of his father, who he sadly lost 30 years ago.

Joe’s dad served in the Armed Forces, and Joe describes him as being the ‘perfect role model’ for him and his sister when they were children. Joe was motivated to take on the challenge after hearing about the work Walking With The Wounded do to provide veterans with tailored mental health support within 7 miles of their home. With this in mind, Joe made the decision to walk from his hometown, Burton-on-Trent, to his father’s hometown, Wigan, a journey of 77 miles.

RAF veteran takes on 100 mile Peak District walk

Jack Roberts, an RAF Veteran from Macclesfield, is walking 100 miles through the Peak District between November 11th and December 11th.

During his time in the RAF, Jack completed two tours in Afghanistan in 2009 and 2011 as a Force Protection member of the Medical Emergency Response Team. Following harrowing experiences, he was diagnosed with PTSD and received critical support from Walking With The Wounded.


Reflecting on why he chose to take part in Walking Home, Jack said: “With support from WWTW, I was diagnosed with PTSD and underwent 16 sessions of EMDR therapy. From London to Dumfries, the care staff Walking Home For Christmas

Workers from the UK’s largest online care platform Curam put their best feet forward on December 11, raising vital funds for veterans’ charity Walking With The Wounded as part of its Walking Home For Christmas campaign.

The national sponsored event, which is now in its 10th year, involved teams from the care company’s London and Dumfries offices, who collectively clocked up a total of 50 miles as one of 154 teams taking part.

Staff in east London carried out individual walks, including Curam co-founder Patrick Wallace, who walked from the company’s office in Ashwin Street, Dalston, to Hammersmith. And the Scottish team, headed by Curam director Ben Weatherall, clocked up 12 miles with their countryside walk in Irongray, Dumfries.

Veteran walking 250 miles from the Shetland Islands to Aberdeenshire

Lee Jordan from Banchory, Aberdeenshire will be walking from the Shetland Islands home to Banchory in December to raise funds for those who served.

Commenting on the Walking Home For Christmas challenge, Lee said, “Last year I took on a Walking Home For Christmas, walking from the most Easterly Bothy in the UK. This year I have decided that I owe it to my fellow veterans to try and raise the bar and raise as much money as possible for those in need by ‘Walking Home For Christmas’ from the most Northerly Point in the UK.

Tidworth Royal British Legion Football team taking on 245-mile challenge

The Tidworth Royal British Legion Football Team is embarking on a 245-mile walking challenge on December 14th and 15th. Their goal is to raise funds for those who have served.


During the event, each team, comprised of serving personnel, veterans, and children of serving soldiers from Wellington Academy in Ludgershall, will undertake continuous laps of a 400-metre circuit over 36 hours. The objective for each team is to complete the symbolic distance of 245 miles, mirroring the journey from Tidworth to Frelinghein, France. The distance holds significant historical significance as it marks the location of the 1914 Christmas Truce football match.
